In the wake of reports shedding an unflattering light on the state’s foster care system, Oregon Governor Kate Brown fired Jerry Waybrant, the top administrator of the Oregon Department of Human Services and ordered an independent investigation on the Oregon foster care provider Give Us This Day.
Governor Brown released a statement that revealed her displeasure with the state agency and its foster care provider, “I have serious concerns about information brought to light regarding foster care provider Give Us This Day. When it comes to ensuring the safety of children in the state’s care, we must be uncompromising.”
Former employee of Give US This Day and whistle blower Rachel Rosas spoke publicly about the foster care problems in an interview last month. Give Us This Day was the subject of a Willamette Week cover story in September, looking into accusations that the organization neglected vulnerable children and was misused public money.
It’s about time DHS is investigated about its role in the Give Us This Day scandal.
