Oregon Boy Scout Leader Arrested on Sex Abuse Charges

Douglas James Young Jr. is a 46-year-old Boy Scout leader arrested on criminal charges of inappropriate contact with a minor. Local authorities in Lebanon, Oregon said the alleged incident occurred in Lebanon and that other potential victims, some now adults, have been contacted and interviewed. Police say the other victims reported incidents of sex abuse between 2004 and 2008.

Young has been investigated for similar conduct for the past 12 years but no arrests resulted.  Police expect to find more victims related to this case and the investigation is ongoing. Detectives began this investigation on February 28 after police received a report of Young having inappropriate contact with a minor.

Investigators say there may still be additional victims and that they are still conducting interviews.

According to police, Young was still an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America at the time the incidents were reported, though there is no information now indicating that the abuse occurred at Scout campouts.

Young’s Facebook page has photos of him with scouts during Boy Scout activities.  According to his Facebook page, he operates a blog entitled “Parenting Survival Guide:  Stories about how we survive with 9 kids.”  It hasn’t been updated since 2012.

Young currently faces five counts of first-degree sex abuse and four counts of second-degree sex abuse. The investigation into this case in ongoing and police ask that anyone with information pertaining to this case contact Detective Ryan Padua at 615-444-2323.
