Scott M. Armstrong, a former assistant Boy Scout volunteer, was arrested for possession of child pornography in Spokane, Washington.
Police were tipped off by someone who accessed Armstrong’s laptop computer and inadvertently discovered a folder on the computer that contained images of children engaged in sexual acts. Police found over 600 pornographic images, and say Armstrong admitted he had “a few thousand” pornographic images.
(Interestingly, Sgt. Michael McNab with the Spokane Police Department explained that, with technology, police can verify images are pornographic without actually looking at them.)
Until his arrest, Armstrong served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for a Troop in the Inland Northwest Council of the Boy Scouts of America. It is not clear from news stories whether the pornographic images involved boys in the Troop or any children Armstrong knew personally.
