The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced on March 4, 2022 that it has charged former Beaverton mayor Dennis “Denny” Doyle with possessing child pornography.
Doyle is 73 years old. He served as a councilman in Beaverton for more than a decade. He was elected as Beaverton’s mayor in 2008. He served three terms until 2020.
The criminal information alleges that Doyle possessed digital media containing child pornography, including images of children under 12 years old, from November 2014 through December 2015. He faces a maximum possible sentence of 20 years in prison.
Doyle has been heavily involved in youth-serving organizations for over 30 years. He has been involved with soccer clubs, baseball and softball teams, school committees for local schools, and the Boy Scouts of America. His service with these organizations likely put him in contact with hundreds, if not thousands, of minors over the years. Given the child pornography charges he now faces, his past service with these organizations is particularly concerning.
In 1993, Doyle helped start the Westside Metros Soccer Club, now the Westside Timbers Soccer Club, a nonprofit youth soccer club that hired coaches to lead about 30 children’s soccer teams. He also served on boards for the Westside Recreational Soccer Club, and the Beaverton Baseball and Softball Association. He served on school committees for Beaverton High School and Sexton Mountain Elementary School. He also previously coached softball and soccer for the Valley Catholic High School in Beaverton.
In 2008, the Boy Scouts of America named him Citizen of the Year. The Boy Scouts of America is currently embroiled in one of the largest tort bankruptcies in U.S. history due in large part to the number of lawsuits against it stemming from its history of adult volunteers sexually abusing Scouts for decades.
