Child Sexual Abuse

Child victim

Child sexual abuse is a societal scourge as well as a deeply traumatic event in the life of the one victimized. As public awareness has grown in the past twenty years, criminal and civil laws have changed to reflect the unique nature of child sexual abuse. Many states have new laws that allow for adult survivors of child sexual abuse to come forward in the criminal and civil courts to seek justice from their abusers and the institutions that protected them.

Representative Cases

As sexual abuse lawyers, we have advocated for the civil rights of sexual abuse survivors in many states, including Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Iowa, and Texas, just to name a few. It has been our privilege to represent courageous survivors in civil lawsuits against institutions of trust, such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic Church, the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), Assemblies of God, other religious and youth-serving organizations, educational institutions, and the Department of Human Services. One of the more publicized cases Gilion worked on was the 2010 Kerry Lewis case against the Boy Scouts that resulted in an almost $20 million verdict.  Dumas & Vaughn also represented 28 men who were sexually abused as children by their Boy Scout leaders in Idaho against the Boy Scouts and LDS Church.

Sensitivity and Individual Attention

We are proud to work for sexual abuse survivors. Their courage and integrity have inspired our work as we continue to fight for justice on their behalf in the civil courts.

At Dumas & Vaughn, we understand that each sexual abuse case is unique and each survivor requires personal attention. We empower survivors to reclaim their lives through counseling, seeking justice in the courts, and advocating for other survivors. While we provide them with our legal expertise, we honor the survivors’ decisions in terms of how best to seek healing and empowerment. We pledge to be with each one of them every step of the way.
