Catholic Church in Louisville Sued For Sex Abuse

St._Boniface's_Church_Louisville.PDTwo men have filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against an incarcerated priest, a nun, and the Archdiocese of Louisville for alleged sexual abuse they suffered in the 1970’s.

The priest, 67-year-old Rev. James Schook, is serving a 15 year prison sentence for sexually molesting one of the two men. According to the Associated Press, “The 67-year-old priest was tried for abusing both boys, but convicted in connection to only one. Schook’s attorney argued that the second man was of legal age when the sexual relationship began. . . The details of the allegations have not yet been made public. It was filed Thursday under seal. A Kentucky statute requires lawsuits involving claims of sexual abuse more than five years old to be sealed until a judge orders it opened.”

The Archdiocese of Louisville is no stranger to the sexual abuse tragedy that has plagued the Catholic Church. The Archdiocese has settled sexual abuse claims for $29 million since 2002.
