A bill designed to protect California’s farmworkers from sexual abuse and exploitation will now go to Governor Brown’s desk for signature.
According to The California Report, “State Senator Bill Monning said he was moved to introduce the bill because of a series on the issue of farmworker sexual harassment and assault by the Center for Investigative Reporting, the Investigative Reporting Program at UC Berkeley and The California Report.”
Michael Marsh is an attorney for California Rural Legal Assistance who reports, “We see between one and two women who are sexually harassed by a supervisor in the workplace each week. Each year we get between one and two women who are raped by their supervisor.”
As a California sex abuse lawyer, it is imperative that the government protect these vulnerable workers from predatory businesses.
