Laurence Metz, a youth basketball coach in Beaverton, Oregon, has been arrested and charged with four counts of second degree sexual abuse. Metz coached basketball at Club Villa Sport in Beaverton. He also runs a company called Metz Basketball Academy and held classes at The Courts in Beaverton.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating Metz since December 2016. Metz allegedly befriended a family he met through coaching at Club Villa Sport and sexually abused a teenage girl in the family home on multiple occasions.
“Due to his extensive contact with juveniles and youth over the years, we’re concerned there could potentially be more victims,” Jeff Talbot with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said. “The biggest thing you can do is be aware of what your children are doing and who they’re spending time with.”
Metz posted bail and was released the day of his arrest.
Law enforcement officials are concerned that Metz may have abused other children given his extensive activity in youth sports. The Metz Basketball Academy has numerous photos of Metz engaging in private lessons with kids and he holds regular clinics for local youth. If these allegations prove true, Metz may have abused other children. If you have any information, please contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 503-846-2500.
