A new lawsuit alleges that dairy giant Darigold abuses its workers and its cows, producing milk “under conditions where dairy cows are injured and sick, where despite suffering from bloody and swollen udders, cows are still milked . . .” Food Freedom would allow consumers to buy their milk from different dairies.
Darigold has 69 dairies in Oregon. The state refuses to give consumers the right to choose alternatives such as buying raw milk from local producers sold in grocery stores. Local production is an important part of Food Freedom.
Right now, the rules in Oregon are that consumers can buy raw milk only directly at a farm that has fewer than three milk cows or seven goats.
